Cirque-style show, "Saltoriya" is taking over the Eldorado theater for the next 3 months

RENO, Nev. -- “Saltoriya,” a theatrical cirque sensation, is coming Aug. 4 through Nov. 15 to the Eldorado Theatre inside the Eldorado Resort Casino Reno.
Fox 11's Gianna Giorgi met with the cast this morning and has a preview of the show in the CLIP above.
“Saltoriya” is a new show comprising awe-inspiring internationally acclaimed performers, acrobats, daredevil stunts and comedy in an exhilarating, uplifting experience. The show combines feats of athleticism, comedy, original music and choreography to create an awe-inspiring production. It celebrates magnificent physical movements of world-class performers with universal and timeless appeal. Cirque-style productions bring amazing elements of the traditional circus to another level of excitement and aesthetics.
“Saltoriya” features a cast of incredibly talented American and European performers including acrobats, clowns, jugglers and dancers. The audience will see comedians, unicycle masters, an unsupported ladder balancing act, contortion-hand balancing, a hula-hoop act and a daring motorcycle globe act.
“The show brings a lighthearted high-energy performance showcasing the best artistic disciplines that the contemporary circus can offer,” said Misha Matorin, the show’s producer.
Matorin, producer of many cirque-style spectaculars, pushes the envelope to perform entertainment of the highest caliber in the perfect melding of circus and theater, brought to life by an original musical score and surrealistic characters. Matorin, who used to perform his aerial cube act with Cirque du Soleil, created his own production company, DreamCast Entertainment.
“My focus and greatest passion remains in the creation, the design and the production of cirque-style shows and visual extravaganzas,” Matorin said.

Walker Brothers Circus has now cancelled two shows in Vermont as a result of the accident
The National Weather Service had issued a severe thunderstorm warning about 23 minutes before the collapse

A father and daughter were killed and more than two dozen injured when a circus tent collapsed at the Lancaster fairgrounds in New Hampshire on Monday night.
The Walker Brothers Circus was just starting a show when severe weather hit and the tent came down trapping audience members beneath it.
Residents of the small town of roughly 3,500 rushed to the scene of the accident as they searched for loved ones who had gone there for a night out under the big top.

'There were a lot of casualties. Some of them were able to go to the hospital themselves without the use of an ambulance,' local councilman Leo Enos said. We picked up our grandson and headed back to Lancaster to go to a circus at the fair grounds for 5.30pm; there was a second show scheduled for 7.30pm.
I had planned this trip for two weeks. We ate some snacks and headed over. We got some good seats and they started in about ten minutes of our arrival.
My grandson sat next to my wife but separated by 2 ½ feet because of the position of a steel tent poles restricting our view. The first act came on; it was a juggler. He was good.
Than a woman on a horse and finally a woman about 35 years old climbed up to the top of a rope which had two long fabric hangers. She did different acrobatic maneuvers up and down the hanging cloths. Every ones' eyes were on her and the show.
We heard a thunder clap in the near distance which happens all the time around here in the summer.
The act went on. It started to rain very hard but not in the tent.
The wind picked up, and then rain began to fall, then, ¾ inch hail stones began to fall. Instinctively in my head, I first looked at the 50 foot massive towers with light bars across them mounted about 12 feet off the ground.
They looked fine. Then, a strong wind came in the partially open west side of the tent like a locomotive and more hail fell, harder and, all of a sudden, there was a loud roar of wind and the west side of the circus tent began to rise off the ground.
I looked around at my wife and grandson and we looked at each other.
Suddenly, the tent came off the ground and began to fall towards the east side. My wife grabbed our grandson and I grabbed them all too shelter us.
I was able to get two photos just before the tent lifted off the ground. We were able to get out and our first instinct was to help others get out.
We gave up that idea and ran as fast as we could in the hail and blinding rain. Finding our car, I made sure they were safe!
I turned back and yelled to them, 'I'm going back; they need help with lifting the tent off of victims!' I snapped a few photos as I returned. The scene was without words and everyone was in shock. My camera got damaged in the chaos.
I spent 20 minutes or more with other men and the lady who was in the show releasing the thick, heavy plastic tent cover, off the steel frames.
We worked as hard as we could because a lady was yelling, 'My daughter, I can't find her, hurry!'
We were trying to quickly release the fabric, but the massive seam of daisy-chained ropes the length of the seam, hampered our progress.
One man took out a knife and we were all able free the connection between the fabric and the fallen steel tower. It took a lot of energy.
Sadly there was one victim under the massive steel beam who couldn't be saved.

I felt sorry, but continued to help free other victims.
After about 10 minutes of helping, the officials arrived to aid everyone; they cleared the area of participants to make room for the first squad.
We made it home, still in shock and held each other for a while.
Living on Main Street we witnessed all the official cars go by. We will never forget this event and neither will this small northern Coos county town!

Officials said the identities of those who were killed were being withheld pending next-of-kin notification. Autopsies are being performed on the victims.
During a news conference on Tuesday morning, officials said about 39 people were injured.
Those who were injured were taken to four regional hospitals.
Officials have admitted there was no inspection of the tent prior to the event.
'There was a lot of wind. It was exceptionally heavy than what comes with regular rain storms and everything,' said Ellen Ruch of Lancaster to WMTW.
'But it's terrible. It's absolutely terrible. It's shocking. I thought about bringing my niece here. I had tickets for her and everything and it turned out that it just ended up being a very busy day for me so I didn't make it.'
'And will all the families and the children and uh, to find out that the tent had actually fell was devastating, very devastating,' Ms Ruch said.

About this Year’s Design

The drawing is by Chantal Lutzny, aged 10. The family Lutzny are owners of Circus Montana, which travels between Germany and the Netherlands. Chantal was born in the circus and travels with her parents. The circus has a Western act with horses, knife-throwing, lasso and a fire show. Chantal performs some acrobatics.
 Chantal is enrolled in a special touring school for circus children, De Rijdende School, based in The Netherlands, which provides face-to-face learning and distance education. The school is a member of the European Network of Traveller Education (ENTE). De Rijdende School is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year and the children submitted drawings to the Federation that they proposed for the Princess’s greeting card to celebrate the Sixth World Circus Day.

The Federation asked Mr. Steven High, Executive Director of The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota, Florida, USA, to select the winning design.

Gold Strike Casino Presents "Taganai"

Deep in the heart of the Mississippi Delta is an entertainment experience that might seem more at home in Las Vegas. But at Gold Strike Casino in Tunica County, Miss., is "Taganai," a Cirque-style extravaganza that is a delight to children as well as their parents.

For about 90 minutes, viewers are entertained by acrobats, a woman who closely resembles a human slinky, the lowest limbo competition possibly ever witnessed, a tight-rope walker and so much more. The show is straight out of Vegas. But until July 13, 2014, it’s at home in Tunica, less than a 30-minute drive south of Downtown Memphis.

The Millennium Theater at Gold Strike Casino is host to "Taganai." It debuted June 27 and runs Tuesdays through Sundays at 7 p.m., as well as matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 p.m. The show is dark on Mondays. Tickets are $9.95, $14.95 and $19.95.

The performance kicks off as the audience is still filing into the seats of the theater. Just as the clock approaches 7 p.m., two men dressed in costumes that somewhat resemble something out of the 1930s start walking through the crowd having fun with the audience. It’s not exactly clown costumes, but it’s close enough.

We soon discover these two men are more than just the pre-show entertainment as we’re more than 10 minutes into show time and the only theater is these two men (Olexandr Kartukov and Alex Deev) interacting with the crowd. But that’s OK, as they have older men throwing hats to the stage while each side of the audience is competing to see who can clap the loudest. The children in the crowd love it. And for the adults who have decided to bring their children to a Tunica casino for an evening of fun, that has to be gratifying.

The show does ultimately get underway, with the full ensemble making their way onto the stage in various ways, from walking on rolling balls to coming out in the most flexible ways imaginable.

Taganai comes from a Eurasian term meaning “moon holder,” a reference to the the Ural Mountain Range. The show was created by DreamCast Entertainment, which creates Cirque du Soleil-style shows.

As the show begins, we watch the lead character pulled through a picture frame he holds that reveals a hidden world to him. In this hidden world are athletic feats that are hard to imagine.

If your childhood ever included hula hoops, the next performer will certainly hold your attention. This lady (Olena Deshko) managed to go from a few hula hoops to eight at once. It was quite impressive. But then she took it to another level, with 60 hula hops that she found a way to use to turn her body into a human slinky.

And then our attention was pointed to a couple out for some limbo fun (Tatavik & Gagik Seyranyan). It started innocently enough with just a basic walk under the bar. But then they upped the level of difficulty when the lady walked under the lowered bar with four wine glasses balanced on her face, followed by his turn with spinning plates. If you think you’ve seen low limbo, you’ve never seen it this low.

The show manages to keep bringing the magic, from a couple walking on a ladder (Alexander Vega & Anna) while juggling objects to a man on a tight rope ( Evgeny Vasilenko) to another guy walking on broken glass (Valeriy Demichev ), eating fire and diving through a ring of knives on fire.

It really defies logic that these people can do these odd things with their bodies while balancing on the tiniest of objects. But to keep things real, one performer (Tatavik Seyranyan) did slip while balancing on a tall stack of rolling objects while juggling flowers.

The end of the show features a couple of motorcycles, but I’ll leave it at that. The stunts are enough to leave your jaw on the floor.

This show is very family friendly, although I could see where smaller kids could be frightened at times with loud noises and bright lights. Children as young as 5 and as old as high school students will be entertained. It’s also plenty of fun for adults.

Ringling Bros. Circus Accident Investigators Probe Steel Ring

A mid-air platform holding eight circus performers came crashing down because one steel ring connecting the apparatus to a cable snapped, officials said Monday. The cause of the failure is still under investigation, and investigators said the D-ring carabiner would be sent to a lab for analysis. "It was a single piece of equipment that failed. It snapped," said Paul Doughty, an investigator for the Providence, Rhode Island, Fire Department. The 5-inch long ring, which has three solid sides and one side with a spring-loaded and self-locking gate, was supposed to be able to hold 10,000 pounds.

Celebrated on the third Saturday each April, World Circus Day is a special day to celebrate Circus Arts and Culture.
A month long celebration of Circus, the Art of Happiness, will begin on 20 March 2014, the United Nation's "International Day of Happiness" and end on the Fifth World Circus Day, Saturday 19 April 2014.
Anyone wishing to participate in World Circus Day must register online. Registered participants will be able to upload images of their events starting 21 March.

All participants are asked to build a pyramid as part of their World Circus Day activities and submit it online the day of the event to create a Virtual Pyramid of Happiness linking events around the world.
